Deep beneath the skin of the earth, deep beneath the molten crust, lies the clockwork that keeps our world ticking. A giant cog, thousands of miles across, spins the earth on its hinges, keeps the earth rotating and normality anchored. Since time started creaking it's hinges, Rust has set in. Rust corrodes cogs, sets the working awry. To combat this corrosion, a select number of the most agile inhabitants work to repair the cogs as they crumble, and work with the elders to research an end to the Rust. They are known as cogspinners.
The image below is the weapon/grapling hook used by the cogspinners. The weapon is held on a long crossweave link chain, and swung like a lasso. The weapon is constructed from a pristine cog loose from the workings.
The protagonist is one of these cogspinners. He uses a repurposed cog as both a weapon and a grapling hook, to move within the workings of the clockwork and more recently destroy rust avatars. The image below is of the hero, in both traditional and function cogspinner garb, if he is to take on a human form.
The denziens of the clockwork believe themselves to be avatars of the cogs of the clockwork, and are born with their cog emblazoned on their body. Recently, avatars of the Rust have began appearing, and speeding up the development of Rust faster than ever witnessed before. The very first record of a rust avatar's sighting was identical to the birth of the protagonist, and due to the unique marking of a black cog on his neck, he is believed to be the cause of the rust avatars. The location of the black cog is unknown. Gameplay: The gameplay is a combination of puzzle solving in the clockwork and combat with rust avatars, both involving the use of the cogspinner weapon. The player controls this object like a targeted grapling hook, using the mouse position and velocity to control the direction and spin. Rust creatures have a habbit of materialising close to the protagonist, and so he is forced to dispatch of them regularily. Destroying a rust avatar removes the corrosion it was created from, and so the protagonist repairs damaged cogs and restores functionality to sections of the clockwork. Clockwork functionality can also be altered and restored by replacing cogs or shifting their workings. Storyline: The characters primary objectives are to discover the source of the rust, and it's avatars, and with the help of the elders, research a way to reverse it. He also wishes to find information about the black cog he is the avatar of, and discover it's relationship to the creation of rust avatars. Development: Development roles will include Concept/Story lead, Art lead, Gameplay, Environment, Code and 3D lead, though all team members will likely contribute to all of these factors in a manner similar to Valve's Cabal system.
